Adam is now Dr. Adam Okerlund!
Adam Okerlund successfully presented his work for his PhD! Congraduations!
Eric is on his way to being Dr. Dr. Eric Brown
Eric Brown presented his Ph.D. work on Rieske iron-sulfur proteins and successfully defended his work. Following completion of his M.D. in approximately May, 2009, he will be known to all as Dr. Dr. Eric Brown.
PDB Quality Paper Published
A statistical analysis of the quality of X-ray crystallographic protein structures in the Protein Data Bank has been published in Acta Crystallographica Section D: Biological Crystallography. Here is a link to the main source. A news article has also appeared in Chemical and Engineering News -- a weekly magazine published by the American Chemical Society.
Nathan Coussens is now Dr. Nathan Coussens!
Nathan Coussens successfully presented his work on Inate Immunity and Host/Pathogen Responses towards his PhD. Take a look at some of the pictures from his presentation and party afterwards.
Heather recognized as Employee of the Year
Our lab manager, Heather Hansen, was recently recognized as the student empoyee of the year for lab services. She is the perfect research assistant.
Our fabulous post-doc, Lokesh Gakhar, recently won the University of Iowa Badminton championship in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. After tirelessly practicing when he should have been working, he was able to defeat his foes over dozens of games.
Adam Okerlund receives the Osburn teaching award
Adam recently won the Osburn teaching award from the college of Engineering. Being chosen by both the students and faculty, Adam has been recognized for his superb teaching abilities. On Friday, April 20th, he will receive he award at the College of Engineering Research Awards Luncheon in the 2nd floor ballroom of the IMU.
After a highly productive post-doc in the Ramaswamy lab, Dan Ferraro heads back to complete medical school. His first rotation back in the clinics will be in Pediatrics. So if you've got kids, now is the time (or maybe not) for them to break their arms ;-)
Dan Ferraro has successfully completed his PhD in the Ramaswamy lab. He will now relax and spend his days contemplating life's bigger questions such as "what pet should we get for the lab next?" Actually, he's now a post-doc in the lab until next spring when he will return to the clinics to finish up his M.D./Ph.D. degrees.
We have recently lost two loving lab mascots -- a fish and a snail. They both were overwhealmed by the poor water quality found in Iowa City and have passed onto a better place -- the great toilet in the sky.
The Ramaswamy lab is an exciting research lab at the University of Iowa, Roy J. and Lucile A. Carver College of Medicine, Department of Biochemistry (wow, that was a mouthfull). It is also affiliated with Chemical Engineering and the Center for Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing. Our research projects revolve around using protein structures to explore and understand biochemistry.
This site has been newly redesigned to make viewing and updating easier. As such, it uses XHTML and CSS extensively. Some features may only be correctly rendered on newer web-browsers such as those with Mac OSX and Mozilla derivatives (including Firefox). No real attempt has been made to make this work with Internet Explorer for three reasons: first its sooo buggy that multiple hacks would be required, second its not even remotely standards compliant and so it would limit the future of this site, and third I don't use it (I know is a bad reason but I made this site to be used by me and my lab and we use Firefox.) Sorry if this inconviences you.
